Actually you have asked a brilliant question here!

My example may seem trivial, but here it is anyway. I teach Piano. One of my students was encouraged by his father to learn Piano and Golf. He was IMHO yoho awesomely talented at both! At age 15 he went round a golf course in 75. He was playing advanced Piano music by the same age.

I reckoned at this point that at the very least this guy could become both a piano teacher and a golf teacher by the time he was 21!

I told him some people play golf all their entire lives and never break 80!

I told him how great he was at Piano.

[I didn't write here that I really considered at the time that this student was not really too sharp generally speaking, academically.]

At age 16 he took a year off Piano lessons to go to some sort of intermediate or technical college.

He never came back to me for lessons.

A few years later the guy Facebooks me.

He's taking a Physics degree! How awesome is that? His friends on Facebook are all calling him a brainiac and everything.

What a transformation!

The guy had really found himself.

He'd hardly touched Piano or Golf in several years!!!
